The foot doctor
A podiatrist is an allied health professional who can diagnose and treat a range of conditions of the foot and lower leg. This can include soft tissue pain like muscle, ligament or tendon injuries; joint pain and swelling and bone pain. The skill of a specialised musculoskeletal podiatrist lies in the identification and understanding of the mechanism of injury thereby being able to formulate an appropriate treatment strategy to get you back to function.
The foot plays a significant role in our day to day function. It has to effectively accept the load of the body, which varies with activity and move us from one point to another without us falling over.
The foot has to be flexible enough to adapt to changes in the surface environment yet stiff enough to propel us onto the next step. It has to do all of this without us even being aware of it.
